The success of Urban Air Mobility hinges on our ability to manage complex, three-dimensional traffic in dense urban environments safely and efficiently. Traditional air traffic management systems weren't designed for the unique challenges of urban air mobility – from managing thousands of autonomous aircraft to ensuring safe operations in urban canyons.

2. AAM specific novel technology development

The framework needs to address flying within the urban canyon and be in close proximity to buildings and other traffic. Some novel technologies will need to be either developed or existing technology enhanced to overcome the challenges arising from this new environment. We also have to consider that this traffic will be made up of piloted, remotely-piloted and autonomous and may be manned or carry passengers.
